Drilling Academy

The National Energy Skills Center's Drilling Academy is a fully integrated, open-access technical training institute designed to deliver a robust curriculum focused on training for the energy sector. Launched in December 2013, the Academy is the first institution of its kind in the Caribbean, Central and South America.


About the Drilling Academy

The Drilling Academy has the support of the Ministry of Energy and Energy Affairs of Trinidad and Tobago, the Energy Chamber of Trinidad and Tobago, and private and public companies in the local Oil and Gas Sector.

The Academy, which has a student capacity of 90, is equipped with a fully functional Drilling Rig for practical training which mirrors that of the industry. In addition to full-time programmes targeting persons who are both new to the field of drilling, as well as experienced personnel, the Academy offers programmes for the professional development of Experienced Rig Personnel who may wish to attain certification in their field; from fundamental entry level to detailed skilled personnel.

Internationally Accredited

The Academy is an institutional member of the International Association of Drilling Contractors (IADC) and has been included in the NESC’s ISO 9001:2008 certification.

The Academy is registered with the Accreditation Council of Trinidad and Tobago, and is in the process of implementing the organization’s accreditation strategy.

Industry Relevant Curriculum

The Academy’s Faculty consists of highly qualified and competent Instructors with relevant experience in the drilling industry.

Technical Advisory Committee was integrated into the faculty and provides effective governance support regarding the delivery of a technologically relevant Drilling Body of Knowledge and Drilling Rig Technician Curriculum.
