Drilling Rig Operations Diploma

2 academic years and 1 year on the job

The program will run for two (2) Academic years and one (1) year on the job. The duration of a semester will be 14 weeks of contact hour training. Upon successful completion of the training program candidates will receive certification from the National Energy Skills Center (NESC) in Drilling Rig Technician Diploma.

Entry Requirements

Successful completion of 1640 hours of relevant work experience makes graduates eligible for the NESC Diploma.

Prerequisites:
  • 5 CSEC Passes including Mathematics and Physics/Chemistry or NESC Craftsman Certificate
  • Mature students with appropriate qualifications and experience.
  • Be sixteen (16) years or older.
  • Pass an interview.
  • Pass a Drug Test at their cost.

Registration Fee: $500 (non refundable)

Graduates will receive an NESC Diploma (equivalent to the Trades Professional Qualification, Alberta, Canada).

Objectives

On completion of the program candidates can fill positions in Oil and Gas industry, specifically the Drilling Industry on various levels.

The graduate of the Drilling Rig Technician Program will:

  • develop a heightened sense of safety in the workplace and environment
  • have a thorough knowledge and understanding of the various types of installations, systems, equipment, hand tools and power operated machines used in the Drilling Industry and/or at the wellsite
  • be skillful in the safe use of these tools in order to safely fulfill the objectives of the Operator and/or Drilling Contractors
  • be capable of reading basic rig schematics and following activities as per schematic and/or as instructed by Wellsite Superiors.
  • understand the concepts of Geological Analysis and Formation Evaluation and their applicability in Well Planning/Execution
  • know the principles associated with the various rig activities/operations, and actively participate in each activity/operation in a safe and efficient manner
  • understand the effects of various abnormalities and identify problems associated with each; and have an understanding of the problems associated with the operations mentioned previously
  • be familiar with the roles and responsibilities of various levels of personnel in the industry
