This Apprenticeship Programme provides theoretical and practical training in Heavy Equipment Maintenance. Students are taught to interpret work orders and technical manuals and how to keep equipment clean, lubricated and effectively maintained. Through a combination of workshop and on-the-job training, students are exposed to the skills required to diagnose faults and malfunctions, adjust equipment and repair or replace defective parts, components or systems.

Entry Requirements

Successful completion of 1640 hours of relevant work experience makes graduates eligible for the NESC Diploma.

Prerequisites:
  • 5 CSEC Passes including Mathematics and Physics/Chemistry or NESC Craftsman Certificate
  • Mature students with appropriate qualifications and experience.
  • Be sixteen (16) years or older.
  • Pass an interview.
  • Pass a Drug Test at their cost.

Registration Fee: $500 (non refundable)

Graduates will receive an NESC Diploma (equivalent to the Trades Professional Qualification, Alberta, Canada).

The following are the primary objectives of the Heavy Equipment Technician Programme:

  • Diagnose repair, and maintain by skills and knowledge gained through training and experience any of the working parts of diesel engines as well as the various components of mobile industrial equipment.
  • Read and understand work orders, prepare estimates, and interpret technical manuals.
  • Write service reports, diagnose the cause of failures and keep service analysis records.
  • Perform assigned tasks in accordance with production standards required by industry.
