Opening of new Automotive Services Building at the NESC Goldsborough Campus

The NESC Goldsborough Campus, was first established in 2002 and offers training in Electrical, Welding, Air-conditioning and Refrigeration and Automotive Services. The new Automotive Services building consists of a workshop, an automotive laboratory and two classrooms with the capacity to facilitate training of 16 persons at the Diploma level, 16 persons at the craftsman level and a further 16 persons on a part-time basis at the Fundamentals (or Introductory) Level.

In his Welcome Remarks, President of the NESC, Mr Kern Dass, noted some of the NESC's recent achievements such as its success in being re-certified as ISO 9001:2015 compliant (having first attained ISO certification in 2011) and the revamping of its curriculum to include 11 Diploma Programmes. He noted that Graduates of these programmes, after 1640 hours of industry experience, are eligible to attain both an NESC Diploma and a Tradesman Professional Qualification from Alberta, Canada.

NESC continues to have the support of industry. Present at the event was Mr Jerome Borde, Sector Head – Automotive, Ansa Automotive (and a member of NESC's Board of Governors) who conveyed his organisation's commitment to automotive training at the Campus. He announced the donation of a vehicle for training purposes.

In his address the Honourable Minister of Education noted the significance of the expansion of the Campus to the technical training landscape. He emphasised the continued importance of trained and skilled technical professionals to the local economy and noted the NESC's role as a leading training provider.

The Honourable Chief Secretary also expressed the THA's support for the venture and for NESC's work in Tobago in general. He presented NESC's President, on behalf of the THA, with the Keys to a Mitsubishi Rosa Bus, 24-Seater to be used in the transportation of NESC's Students to site visits relevant to their training.

Officials of both the THA and the Ministry of Education, along with other invited guests, were taken on a tour of the building by Campus Manager, Mr Terrence Fraser. They noted the high standard of the facility and the state-of-the art equipment.

The new cycle of training at the NESC begins in September 2017 and the management of the NESC Goldsborough Campus welcomes Applicants for the 4 programmes offered at the Campus.

The NESC intends to introduce its Diploma in Heavy Equipment and its Heavy Equipment Operator Fundamentals Programme to the Goldsborough Campus in the near future.
