Welder (SMAW, GTAW, FCAW) Diploma

Graduates will be skillful in the fusing of metals using prescribed welding applications and be able to recognize defective welds, know the cause and proper procedure for the repair of the defective area. They will be able to execute assigned tasks in accordance with production standards required by industry.

Entry Requirements

Successful completion of 1640 hours of relevant work experience makes graduates eligible for the NESC Diploma.

Prerequisites:
  • FOUR CSEC Subjects: Math, English, a Science Subject (Integrated Science, Physics, Chemistry) AND Any other CSEC Subject
    OR
    Any prior welding qualification (NESC, YTEPP, MIC or SERVOL) and Three CSEC Subjects. Persons with technical drawing and Integrated Science are encouraged to apply
    OR
    Persons with work experience in welding and any combination of subjects AND training
    OR
    NEC Craft certificate in welding AND any combination of CSEC Subjects
  • Mature students with appropriate qualifications and experience.
  • Be sixteen (16) years or older.
  • Pass an interview.
  • Pass a Drug Test at their cost.

Registration Fee: $500 (non refundable)

Graduates will receive an NESC Diploma (equivalent to the Trades Professional Qualification, Alberta, Canada).

The following are the primary objectives of the Welder Programme:

  • Be skillful in the fusing of metals using prescribed welding applications.
  • Comprehend drawings and develop layout patterns for projects and calculate quantities of materials.
  • Recognize defective welds, know the cause and proper procedure for the repair of the defective area.
  • Have a working knowledge of the required codes.
  • Perform assigned tasks in accordance with production standards required by industry.
